I know ... an epic fail on my part to make more regular posts to my blog! Better late than never, as they say, I thought I'd pop in with a little update.
I have been having a great time over the last couple of months attending local craft fairs and markets, meeting some wonderful new customers and friendly fellow artisans along the way. I have really been inspired by the talents of our local businesses here in Dorset and Somerset, and by talking to customers face to face it seems like you are all very keen to support small businesses and shop local too.
If you live in the local area please feel free to swing by and say hello in October. I will be at the Yeovil Independent Market on Saturday 7th October from 9am until 4pm. Then on Saturday 28th October I will be at The Handmade Fair Sherborne from 10.30am until 3.30pm. Keep your eyes on the Events page for more dates and info about exactly where you can find me.
Well I don't know about you but even though I love the heat the last few days were certainly a shock to the system! There's nothing like the good old British weather to throw us into a 30 degree plus heatwave with absolutely no warning. It is certainly much cooler as I type this, so I am willing Mother Nature to give us a lovely Summer full of pleasantly warm days and eating outside evenings now that we have welcomed the Solstice.
The sun with its hat on heralds the arrival of all the fantastic Summer shows and festivals that we hold here in the UK. I was lucky enough to be invited to the Sherborne Summer Festival last Saturday. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and a fantastic day was had by all shopping local crafts, watching community groups perform, listening to bands and imbibing in a little local cider. I was very good and didn't taste any cider until after I had packed up my stall otherwise you might have spotted me snoring away in a chair behind my table of lovely jewellery. It was really fantastic to get out and about and get chatting to people about the world and all manner of things, including jewellery of course. I even got a request to repair a 1920's tantaliser. I had to ask what it was and was very surprised at the answer!
With Summer in mind I have been adding some more new pieces to the website that are lightweight and easy to wear even on warm days. Whether you are off to Glastonbury, taking a well earned Summer holiday, or working your socks off there is bound to be something to suit your wardrobe in the New Designs collection.
I am hoping to book in some more events for Summer, so keep your eyes peeled on the events page for the latest dates. I am also very excited to be renting some space in a local craft emporium from the 1st July for 3 months. I will be announcing where on my Facebook page as soon as I have set up my display next Saturday.
Just a little catch up for now, but I am faithfully promising to myself that I will write on my blog much more often. So if there is something you really want to hear about please do let me know.
If you are doing something exciting in the Summer or have any pictures of you taking your Little Gems Jewels on holiday or to an event I really would love to hear from you on Facebook.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend!
We all start the New Year with fresh hopes and dreams about what the next twelve months will have in store for us. I don't usually like making resolutions as I tend to end up breaking them within a few days ... like the time I decided after a few drinks on New Year's Eve that I should start eating more healthily, only to realise a few days later that I had far too many boxes of chocolates in my house from the festive period to possibly let them go to waste!!
So what I like to try now is introducing something positive into my life at the beginning of the year as a bit of a kickstart to the good vibes.
Shockingly, despite me wearing and designing jewellery with lots of gemstones, I didn't actually own any gemstone crystals for my home. Terrible I know!! I am well aware of the power that gemstones can have on my mental and physical well being so buying some crystals to keep at home seemed like the perfect positive start to my 2017.
I decided on Rose Quartz, Quartz and Amethyst for my first mini collection, but I'm sure I will be buying many more to scatter around the house. Rose Quartz is said to let love in and also allow your self-worth to shine. Quartz is reknowned for being an all round healing stone which can energise the chakras and promote positivity and harmony. Amethyst helps with mental balance, meditation and spiritual awareness. It is also thought to be a great stone to assist in a peaceful night's sleep. A perfect combo in my humble opinion.
I bought my crystals from a company called Fairies & Pixies on Amazon. I hadn't heard of them before but the gemstones had good reviews, so I took the plunge. The quality of each crystal was fab, delivery was quick and my package arrived with a guide about how to cleanse, charge and care for my crystals too. My little beauties are now ready to go, so all I have left to do is pick the best spot for them and let them work their magic. Happy days ahead!
